Tuscaloosa In Running For USA TODAY's Best College Sports Town Honor

Tourism officials announced Monday that Tuscaloosa has been nominated for USA TODAY Sports' Best College Sports Town

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tourism officials announced Monday that Tuscaloosa has been nominated for USA TODAY Sports' Best College Sports Town in the publication's annual Readers' Choice Awards.

Visit Tuscaloosa said the city was selected by a panel of USA TODAY editors and subject matter experts as one of the nominees for the honor, which recognizes communities known for outstanding college sports traditions and fan experiences.

Public voting opened Monday and will remain open through Aug. 17.

Fans can cast one vote per day to help Tuscaloosa earn a place among the competition's top 10 college sports towns.

"College sports are woven into the fabric of Tuscaloosa, and we are honored to be recognized by USA TODAY Sports alongside some of the nation's premier college towns," Visit Tuscaloosa President and CEO Kelsey Rush said in a statement.

Rush said game days showcase more than Alabama athletics, bringing visitors to local restaurants, entertainment venues, arts and cultural attractions while highlighting the city's Southern hospitality.

Voting closes at 11:59 a.m. eastern time on Aug. 17, with the top 10 winners scheduled to be announced Aug. 26.

Fans can vote once each day through the USA TODAY Sports Readers' Choice Awards website.
