The city says the awards are presented to water treatment facilities and operators that significantly exceed standards set by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for microbial removal in drinking water.

City officials said the recognition highlights the plants’ consistent performance in optimizing treatment processes to ensure safe, high-quality drinking water for Tuscaloosa residents.
