TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Tuscaloosa woman was killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Hale County.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said Ava L. Smith, 43, died after the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe she was driving left the roadway and struck an embankment.

The crash happened at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Alabama Highway 25 near the 48-mile marker, about five miles south of Greensboro.

Authorities said Smith was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
