Tuscaloosa's Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day Set For June 3

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa on Monday announced it will hold its 2023 Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day on Saturday, June 3.

The free event will be from 8 a.m. until noon at its Public Safety Logistics building located at 3311 Reese Phifer Avenue. The event is open only to residents of Tuscaloosa County and wastes will not be accepted from commercial businesses, non-profit organizations or residents outside Tuscaloosa County.

Collections will be conducted by the city’s environmental services division and the event is sponsored by Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa.

The City of Tuscaloosa says household hazardous waste is the discarded, unused or leftover portion of household products containing toxic chemicals.

Items dropped off during the disposal event will either be neutralized and recycled into new products or safely and properly disposed.

Examples of household hazardous waste:

• Household cleaners
• Automotive fluids
• Paint/paint thinner
• Herbicides
• Pool chemicals
• Batteries
• Propane tanks
• Antifreeze
• Pesticides
• Oil or gasoline
• Light bulbs
• Lawn chemicals
• Fertilizers.

The City of Tuscaloosa says tires, medical waste, electronics and non-residential or out-of-county wastes will not be accepted.

The drop-off location will be a contactless drive-thru and participants will be asked to stay in their vehicle while city staff members unload their items.
