Once on scene, police found a 16-year-old juvenile dead. Kennedy said the victim's name would not be released at this time out of respect for privacy for the family.
He went on to say that after investigators gathered evidence and spoke to witnesses, a juvenile suspect was located and charged with one count of murder. Per protocol, Kennedy then cited a 2021 law passed by the state legislature that prohibits police from releasing any identifying information concerning defendants under the age of 18.

What's more, Kennedy said there has been no evidence to show this fatal shooting was related to another murder investigation at Hodo Haven apartments following a shooting on Dec. 6, 2022.
In another separate incident, Kennedy said TPD was again called at 2:20 a.m. to a shooting in the area of 1310 James I. Harrison Jr Parkway East at Brookhaven Apartments.
Kennedy said a 26-year-old man — identified as Deshawn Tanthony Eatmon — was found shot to death at the scene.
Investigators made quick work of the scene and spoke to multiple witnesses before a suspect was developed and taken into custody. Kennedy said 37-year-old Michael Terrell Charles has been charged with one count of murder.
Charles was then booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail with his bond set at $1 million.
Lastly, Kennedy said there was no reason to believe the two fatal shootings over the weekend are connected in any way.
