U.S. Census Director To Speak At Shelton State Thursday

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Shelton State Community College announced this week that it will host the United States Census Director Robert L. Santos for a free event that is open to the public and focused on traditionally underserved populations.

Santos is the 26th director of the agency and he was sworn in on Jan. 5.

The stop in Tuscaloosa comes at part of a tour of the South for Santos, which will bring him to the SSCC Martin Campus on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.

The event will be held in the Alabama Power Recital Hall.

As part of the visit, Santos will speak on a range of topics such as basic census data, information on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and job and internship opportunities available at the United States Census Bureau.

Santos is also a community college graduate who will share the impact of the two-year college system on his own life.

There will also be a question-and-answer portion at the conclusion of his speech.
