UA Honors Hall Evacuated Due To 'Potentially Hazardous' Substance

The University of Alabama has evacuated its Honors Hall out of an abundance of caution after a potentially hazardous substance was found.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The University of Alabama evacuated its Honors Hall out of an abundance of caution Thursday afternoon after a "potentially hazardous material" was discovered in a storage room.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the substance and UA says emergency officials are on scene to remove it.

UA Safety said just after 5 p.m. that the substance was a chemical commonly used in labs that can become dangerous if dried.

Officials then said it will be transported to a nearby area and destroyed, which may result in a large detonation being heard around campus.

UA reiterated that there is no danger to the campus community at present.
