The Fulbright Award, administered by the U.S. Department of State, provides one-year grants for independent study and research or for English teaching assistantships abroad, with the highly competitive program selecting about 1,500 recipients each year from more than 11,000 applicants nationwide.
UA President Peter Mohler said the recognition reflects UA's longstanding commitment to global engagement.

“The Fulbright Program creates powerful opportunities for students to engage with the world, and The University of Alabama has long been committed to leading in this space,” Mohler said. “Being recognized again as a Top Producing Institution reflects the caliber of our students and the guidance and support we provide to prepare them to think globally, lead with purpose and make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.”
UA’s Associate Provost for International Education and Global Outreach Teresa Wise said the designation comes as the Fulbright Program approaches a milestone year.
“As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, so too the Fulbright Program is reaching a significant milestone as it celebrates its 80th anniversary this year,” she said. “As a bold investment in global peace and American prosperity through educational and cultural exchange, Fulbright is a part of our country’s legacy."
Founded in 1946, the Fulbright Program says it seeks to increase mutual understanding and foster friendly, peaceful relations between the people of the United States and those of other countries through educational and cultural exchange.
