UA Taps Denham As New Graduate School Dean, Associate Provost
Longtime faculty member and administrator André Denham has been tapped as UA's next associate provost and dean of the Graduate School.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The University of Alabama on Tuesday announced it has selected longtime faculty member and administrator André Denham to serve as its next associate provost and dean of the Graduate School.

His first day on the job will be July 1, which follows a national search to fill the positions.

UA says Denham currently serves as the university's associate dean for graduate academic affairs and is a professor of instructional technology in UA's College of Education.
In his new role, Denham will oversee the university's graduate education strategy, with an emphasis on strengthening doctoral programs, expanding academic offerings, improving recruitment and funding efforts, streamlining admissions processes and supporting graduate student success.

"Dr. Denham brings exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to graduate education," UA Provost Lesley Reid said in a statement. "His strategic vision and dedication to student success make him the right choice to guide the Graduate School into its next chapter."
Denham said he is honored by the appointment and optimistic about the future of graduate education at UA.
"Graduate education sits at the heart of this University's research, teaching and service mission," Denham said. "Being tapped by Provost Reid to steward this unit is a profound honor."
As associate dean for graduate academic affairs, Denham has overseen graduate curriculum, accreditation, program approvals and student development initiatives while helping manage the Graduate School's budget and operations.

Among his accomplishments, university officials credited Denham with leading efforts to streamline Graduate School processes, expand graduate academic offerings and strengthen communication among graduate programs.
University officials also praised Denham for helping to launch the Crimson Odyssey mentorship and mentee training program, in addition to expanded professional development opportunities for graduate students and faculty mentors.
Denham earned his doctorate in educational technology from Arizona State University and joined the UA faculty in 2012 as an assistant professor of technology.
He was promoted to full professor in 2025.
Beyond his work in the Graduate School, Denham has served as graduate program coordinator for the College of Education's instructional technology program, co-chair of the university's General Education Taskforce and co-chair of the Faculty Senate's academic affairs committee.
