A native of Reading, UK, Banks transferred to UA from the University of Arkansas, where he broke the school record in throws as a freshman in 2021. He went on to finish ninth in hammer with a throw of 213-11 at the 2021 SEC Championship.

It's worth noting that Banks did not start competing in shot put until the eighth grade, before graduating from IMG Academy.
