Health insurance is not required and vaccinations are also available to retired faculty and staff, along with spouses and dependents of UA employees.
Dr. Tom Weida, chief medical officer for University Medical Center and a family medicine physician, said vaccination remains the best defense against influenza.
“Flu season is on its way, but getting the vaccine is a simple way to protect yourself and others,” Weida said. “The vaccine works well to prevent illness and can reduce the risk of hospitalization.”
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an annual flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older, especially those at higher risk for complications, including young children, adults 65 and older, pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions.
