UA Publications, Students Win Awards At College Media Convention

The Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association honored several UA students and publications, including Alice, The Crimson White, Nineteen Fifty-Six and the Corolla, with awards during the Fall National College Media Convention that was held virtually Oct. 14-16.

The Crimson White and the Corolla received Pacemaker 100 awards that recognize the top prizes in collegiate journalism and honor the very best collegiate broadcasts, magazines, newspapers, online publications and yearbooks. The award represents a one-time snapshot of the top 100 publications recognized in the competition throughout its history.

The Crimson White received a Pacemaker 100 award in the newspaper category. Since 1894, the student-run newspaper provides news, sports, culture and opinion pieces to the campus community through print, digital and newsletter publications.

“Winning a Pacemaker is the highest award in college media, so it’s an honor for The CW to be included on the Top 100 list,” said Keely Brewer, editor-in-chief of The Crimson White. “The CW has a long history of excellence in the world of college media. Those awards are a great motivator for myself and future editors to uphold that legacy.”

The Corolla was honored with a Pacemaker 100 award in the yearbook category. First published in 1893, The Corolla served as UA’s yearbook for more than 120 years. The final publication took place in 2014 but all editions are available online through the UA Libraries Special Collections.
