Wes Allen Wins GOP Runoff For Alabama Secretary Of State

Former University of Alabama wide receiver and state legislator Wes Allen has secured the Republican nomination for secretary of state.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — State legislator and former Alabama football wide receiver Wes Allen has secured the Republican nomination for Alabama Secretary of State, with multiple outlets calling his victory over State Auditor Jim Zeigler.

Allen, 46, will now face Democratic nominee Pamela Laffitte in the Nov. 8 General Election.

The son of longtime Alabama State Sen. Gerald Allen, R-Tuscaloosa, Allen was a member of the Crimson Tide football team in the late 1990s.

Allen was first appointed to serve as a Pike County probate judge in 2009 by Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, before winning his first full term in 2012.

He would go on to secure a seat in the Alabama House of Representatives in 2018, before announcing his candidacy for Alabama Secretary of State last spring.
