West Alabama Food Bank Receives Donation Of Nearly $70K For Secret Meals Program
The Alabama Credit Union Foundation announced on Tuesday that it has donated $69,536 to the West Alabama Food Bank.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Alabama Credit Union Foundation announced on Tuesday that it has donated $69,536 to the West Alabama Food Bank as part of its Secret Meals For Hungry Children initiative.

The funds will be used to cover the costs of more than 17,000 food packs for the 2022 Fall school semester.

The foundation says school officials anonymously identify children each week who may be going hungry over the weekend and provide each with a Secret Meals food pack that contains two breakfasts, two lunches, and two snacks.
The partnership between Alabama Credit Union and the West Alabama Food Bank began in 2008 with the goal of ending childhood food insecurity in Alabama communities.

At present, Secret Meals For Hungry Children serves 44 schools in the City of Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, and neighboring counties such as Fayette and Lamar.
The foundation said community volunteers and Alabama Credit Union employees pack the Secret Meals food packs and deliver them to participating schools every week.
The packs are then discreetly placed in the student’s backpack to help keep them fed over over the weekend.
