“We know that finding evidence based, non-judgmental reproductive health services in Alabama is already difficult, so we are happy to be able to offer gender-affirming healthcare, with hormone replacement therapy as our newest option for trans health," she said.

According to the Mayo Clinic, hormone replacement therapy is a medication that contains female hormones, which many use to replace the estrogen that their body stops making during menopause.

Hormone replacement therapy is most often used to treat common menopausal symptoms, but is also used as an option for transgender individuals to alter hormone levels to match their gender identity.

As Patch previously reported, the West Alabama Women's Center was forced to close for a couple of weeks following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade — virtually making elective abortions illegal in Alabama overnight.

The West Alabama Women's Center was one of the few abortion clinics in Alabama, but has since reopened as a nonprofit to provide non-abortion services to those in the region.
