Car Burglary Suspects Captured By Vestavia Police

A car burglary Wednesday morning was foiled by Vestavia police near the Vestavia Hills Country Club.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Vestavia Hills police, with help from neighboring law enforcement agencies, apprehended two burglary suspects Wednesday morning. The initial incident occurred around 5 a.m.

Officers reportedly observed a car burglary in progress near the Hwy. 31 and Tyson Drive intersection early Wednesday and apprehended one suspect on the scene. The other suspect fled into the area of Vestavia Hills East Elementary and the Vestavia Hills Country Club golf course. A search began for the suspect, as VHPD officers followed the suspect into those areas.

Jefferson County’s Star 1 helicopter was contacted as well as two Pelham Police Department K-9 units. They responded immediately and began to help with the search for the suspect. The suspect was apprehended at 6:23 a.m.

During the search, police personnel were in contact with Vestavia Hills City Schools administrators as well as the VHPD SRO assigned to East Elementary. The area was deemed safe before school started.
