Car Theft Suspect Arrested After Chase On 459

A man who reportedly stole a car in Center Point led law enforcement on a chase on 459 before being stopped near Liberty Park.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A man who led law enforcement on a chase along I-459 Saturday was eventually stopped near Liberty Park and arrested. Quintarius Cordell Mitchell, 26, has been charged with theft of property, attempting to elude, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.

The incident started when a victim called from a laundry business in the 1500 block of Center Point Parkway and reported that she sat her keys down inside the business while she was unloading clothes and a man then took her key fob and stole her car.

The thief reportedly fled south on Center Point Parkway. The vehicle was tracked to 459 where it was spotted by Jefferson County deputies. Deputies attempted to stop the car but the thief accelerated and attempted to get away.

Mitchell reportedly control of the car near the Liberty Park exit and crashed, and then exited the car and attempted to get away on foot. Deputies chased and eventually caught him.

Mitchell is being held on bonds totaling $43,000.
