4Th Of July BBQ: Miss Myra's Has 'Best Sandwich In Alabama'

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - It is no real secret to locals that Miss Myra's Pit Bar B-Q in Cahaba Heights is special. But the local business mainstay received national attention this month when travel publication Far & Wide ranked the best sandwich in all 50 states, and Miss Myra's chicken sandwich with white sauce came out on top in Alabama.

While the publication gives Big Bob Gibson's in Decatur props for making white sauce famous, it names Miss Myra's as the best sandwich in Alabama.

"While there are dozens of recipes for this mayo-based concoction, the best place to sample it is where it all began, at Big Bob Gibson's Bar-B-Q in Decatur," writer Emily Monaco says of the famous white sauce. "Here, chickens are smoked over hickory wood for three hours before being dunked in the tangy sauce and served on a toasted bun topped with slaw."

Monaco adds, "A handful of places in Birmingham also make a great version of this classic Northern Alabama sandwich, including our top pick: Miss Myra's Pit Bar B-Q."

Miss Myra's is located at 3278 Cahaba Heights Road, and has been open since 1984. Operated by Myra Grissom Harper and family, Miss Myra's features barbecued chicken, beef, pork, ribs and sausage.
