VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - The Pizitz Middle School jazz band received a prestigious honor last month. The band was selected as the middle school recipient of the Jazz Hall of Fame’s Bands of Distinction Award during the 19th Annual Student Jazz Band Festival in April.

The Jazz Band Festival featured 16 student jazz bands from across Alabama on the middle and high school level as well as the collegiate level, according to a press release from the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame.

Bands prepare three to four selections and are adjudicated by a panel of professional jazz musicians and college professors from around the Southeast.

“I am so excited for our Pizitz Jazz Band students,” band director Kim Bain said. “This award is due to the hard work of all the students involved in our program and the support of all the parents who are always there when we need help.

“The students’ enthusiasm for jazz inspires me to set even higher goals for our seventh and eighth grade band students,” she added.
