Rebels Capture Runner Up Trophy In State Track & Field
The Vestavia Hills men's track team took home runner-up honors at the state indoor track meet over the weekend.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - The Vestavia Hills boys indoor track team came home from the AHSAA State Indoor Track & Field meet last weekend as the second best team in the state. The meet was held at the Birmingham CrossPlex Friday and Saturday. Hoover High School captured first place.
According to a report from the Vestavia Voice, the Rebels finished with 62.5 points to edge McGill-Toolen by 13.5 points. Hoover won with 135 points.
Vestavia's James Sweeney ran the 1600-meter race in 4:23.56, nearly a second ahead of Mountain Brook's Charlie Slaughter and Hunter Harwell, who finished second and third. Sweeney also won the 3,200-meter run in a Class 7A state record time of 9:26.45. Bryce Hutchinson finished second behind Sweeney with a time of 9:30.45.

Carl Nesbitt won the high jump competition, reaching a height of six feet, eight inches. Jake Haston finished third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 14 feet.
