Vestavia City Council Changes City Manager's Contract
The Vestavia Hills City Council has amended City Manager Jeff Downes' contract, giving him a pay increase and more benefits.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL- The Vestavia Hills City Council last week agreed to make changes to the contract of City Manager Jeff Downes, giving him a raise and making other changes to the contract. The council made the changes to entice Downes to stay in Vestavia after hearing he was being recruited by the city of Auburn.
According to the Vestavia Voice, the changes to Downes' contract include an 18 percent salary increase, bringing Downes base salary to $190,000 annually, and retaining his $6,000 annual automobile allowance, and changing the way his contract is renewed. Several city council members and other civic leaders spoke out in support of the changes to Downes' contract, including former mayor Butch Zaragoza, city attorney Pat Boone and Chamber of Commerce board chair Roger Steur.
