Teachers from each of Vestavia's schools were honored this week by the Vestvaia Hills Board of Education.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — The Vestavia Hills Board of Education this week honored the school system's Teachers of the Year.

Vestavia Hills City Schools Teachers of the Year

  • Jennifer Dawsey - Vestavia Hills Elementary East
  • Lori Reeves - Vestavia Hills Elementary West (Elementary Teacher of the Year)
  • Tiffany Marron - Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights
  • Martha Martin - Vestavia Hills Elementary Liberty Park
  • Kelly Bagby - Vestavia Hills Elementary Dolly Ridge
  • Kathy Knickrehm - Pizitz Middle School
  • Chassi Waddell - Liberty Park Middle School
  • Michael Sinnott - Vestavia Hills High School

As well, the board recognized Trudye Confessore, music teacher at Vestavia Hills Elementary West, who recently completed certification in the Kodály Concept of music education and is now a certified Kodály educator.

Kodály certification is a rigorous process that spans three years and develops a teacher’s musical and pedagogical skills. Training in the Kodály concept includes study in choir and conducting, research of folk music, and curriculum development strategies. There are fewer than a dozen certified Kodály educators in Alabama.
