Vestavia Hills BOE Names New Assistant Superintendent

In a special called meeting, the board named Aimee Rainey as the school system's assistant superintendent of teaching and learning.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - The Vestavia Hills school system has a new assistant superintendent. In a special called meeting, the school board named Aimee Rainey, Ed.D., as the school system’s assistant superintendent of teaching and learning. She will move into the position on July 1, following the retirement of Assistant Superintendent Jane-Marie Marlin.

Rainey has worked in public education for the past 20 years as an administrator, science teacher and speech language pathologist. For the past year, Rainey has been the Vestavia school system’s director of student services. She previously worked in Florence City Schools as principal of Weeden Elementary School from 2017 to 2018, and as principal of Florence Middle School from 2010 to 2017.

In 2016, Rainey received the Women in School Leadership Award from the American Association of School Administrators, and in the 2015-16 school year was named Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year by the Council of Leaders in Alabama.

Rainey holds a bachelor’s degree in speech and hearing science from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master’s in educational leadership from the University of South Alabama, an educational specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Samford University.
