Vestavia Hills PD Warns Of Phone Scam
The Vestavia Hills Police Department has received a bevy of calls regarding a phone scam involving phony IRS collections.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - Phone scams have been prevalent in recent years, namely those attempting to collect a phony debt from victims. Recently. the Vestavia Hills Police Department said a bevy of phone calls have come into the department regarding a scam involving phony IRS agents asking for money to pay back taxes.
"We have been inundated with reports this afternoon of citizens getting multiple calls/messages from someone saying the IRS or police have warrants out for their arrest or that their social security number has been frozen," the VHPD said in a statement. "Please do not respond to these calls; they are all a scam to try and get personal information from you. We cannot trace these numbers as the callers mostly use computer generated calling systems that mask their true location. While annoying, the best thing to do is ignore them or block the number if possible."
The VHPD added to remember to never give out any personal information to anyone that you did not call yourself, and that no governmental agency will ever solicit payment from you by phone.
