Vestavia Teacher Awarded Scholarship To Study Holocaust
Pizitz Middle School teacher Kelly Sorrell was recently awarded a scholarship to study the Holocaust in Washington.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - Pizitz Middle School teacher Kelly Sorrell was recently awarded a scholarship to study the Holocaust in Washington.
Sorrell, a social studies teacher at Pizitz, received the 2018 Friedman Scholarship from the Birmingham Holocaust Education Center. The scholarship will pay for Sorrell to attend the Belfer Conference on Social Studies in July at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
Sorrell was one of eleven teachers in Alabama who received the Friedman Scholarship this year.

The Belfer Conference is designed for teachers to share strategies and approaches to teaching about the Holocaust. Participants have the opportunity to tour the museum’s exhibitions and to learn about the relevance of the Holocaust today from some of the nation’s foremost experts.
