The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Anchorage.
Hello again, Anchorage! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Anchorage Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Anchorage Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Anchorage long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.
First, today's weather:
An a.m. flurry, then a shower. High: 42 Low: 34.
Here are the top three stories in Anchorage today:
- The COVID-19 pandemic has led to financial hardship for homeowners across the country, including in Alaska. In recognition of this, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce has announced the opening of the application period for the Alaska Homeowner Assistance program. Applications will be accepted now until Monday, Apr. 4 at 11:59 p.m. More information on the program is available at the linked press release. (Press Release Desk)
- Human remains were found in Far North Bicentennial Park on Tuesday, according to Anchorage police. A spokesperson with the Anchorage Police Department stated they have found nothing suspicious about the circumstances. The State Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death and confirm the person's identity. (Alaska's News Source)
- On Friday afternoon, the Anchorage School Board will announce finalists for the district's soon-to-be-vacant superintendent position, as well as provide details about the next steps in the process. Current Superintendent Deena Bishop announced her plans to retire after the current school year. A community town hall will be held on Mar. 29 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.; the Zoom link is available here.
