Today's riddle: Why did the cookie go to the hospital? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Alaska Unlocked: In-state tuition for all students beginning fall 2027 (alaska.edu) — Starting in fall 2027, students at UAA's Anchorage campus and other UA sites will all pay the in-state tuition rate, regardless of where they come from. For full-time nonresident students in Anchorage, that could mean saving more than $7,000 per semester while keeping access to existing financial aid, a major shift aimed at boosting affordability and keeping graduates working in Alaska.
2. FBI Anchorage Field Office discusses Operation Summer Heat and efforts to trace drug pipelines beyond the state (alaskasnewssource.com) — Anchorage's FBI field office says Operation Summer Heat has already led to 19 arrests, dozens of seized guns, and 72 kilograms of drugs kept off Alaska streets, including a large amount of fentanyl. Officials detailed how new task-force coordination with Anchorage police, DEA, and Homeland Security helped unravel drug pipelines tied to a suspended Anchorage attorney and a California-based trafficking network.
3. Faux Flora blooms at the Anchorage Museum (alaskasnewssource.com) — Anchorage residents can now explore "Faux Flora," a new multi-sensory exhibition at the Anchorage Museum that lets you see, hear, and even smell imaginary flowers. Created by Reykjavík art collective Fischersund, the show links each invented bloom to a stage of human life and will be on view in the third-floor west galleries through September 12, 2027.
4. Dynamics of doubles: Siblings and friends take the court at state tennis in Alaska (adn.com) — High school tennis players from across Alaska are in Anchorage this weekend for the ASAA state championships, with several local doubles teams chasing titles at Alaska Club East. Friends, siblings, and mixed doubles partners describe how long-standing relationships and communication shape their play as the tournament continues through Saturday in town.
5. Freelance / Pitch Us — Anchorage Press (anchoragepress.com) — If you're in Anchorage or elsewhere in Alaska with a strong story idea, the Anchorage Press explains exactly how to pitch them and what they pay. They prioritize arts, culture, government, politics, environment, and especially Anchorage-area stories, typically commissioning 750–1,200 word pieces at about 50 cents per word and working closely with freelancers through editing.
