Here are the top stories in Anchorage today:
- On Thursday, an Anchorage Assembly member announced his plans to run for a U.S. House seat for Alaska. The seat Christopher Constant, a Democrat, is after is one that has been held by Republican Don Young since 1973. For the first time in Alaska, voters this year will operate on a voter-approved elections system in which the top four vote-getters in a race will advance to the general election, regardless of party affiliation. (The Seattle Times)
- The University Of Alaska Anchorage debuted its reimagined and refocused honors program for the spring 2022 semester. According to UAA, the goal of the new program is to offer students more flexibility, customization, and engagement as they pursue areas they are passionate about. The first big change to the program allows students to continue into the honors program while building upon their already-earned credits, making it easier for students who changed majors, transferred to UAA from another school, or who first acquired an associate degree to enroll. - On Thursday (Feb. 17), weather officials issued a Winter Weather Advisory in the Anchorage area that will last until Friday at 9:00 am. This weekend, after the Winter Weather Advisory ends, the high temperatures are expected to remain 36 and 37 degrees, and the low temperatures will be 27 degrees on Saturday and 30 degrees Sunday.
