Here are the top 3 stories in Anchorage today:

  1. Yesterday during the very early morning, a shooting took place in the Taku/Campbell neighborhood. The Anchorage Police Department arrived on the scene in response to reports of shots being fired. When authorities arrived, they found one man dead. According to reports, no arrests related to the case have been made. Anyone with information on this event should please contact the Police Dispatch immediately. (Anchorage Daily News)
  2. Unfortunately, the final day of the 2022 Fur Rendezvous Open World Championship Sled Dog Race on Sunday was canceled. The event was cancelled due to dangerous icy trail conditions. The Alaskan Sled Dog and Racing Association stated that the decision had to be made for the best interest of the dogs. Despite efforts from the MOA street crew, Parks and Recreation, the Nordic Ski groomer, and the Alaskan Sled Dog and Racing Association trail crew, it was still not feasible. (Anchorage Daily News)
  3. Clarice Ruhlin-Hicks believes that Anchorage should end its winter camp abatement program. Anchorage began the winter abatement program in December of 2021. This effort cleared over 50 homeless camps on public property. In the past, the program used to stop camp removal during the winter months. However, due to the recent winter abatement program, it continues on in the cold season. This has contributed to the dozens of people that die on the streets and woods of Anchorage. Hicks believes that this must end. (Anchorage Daily News)
