Anchorage woman charged with helping dispose of overdose victim's body at city trailhead (alaskasnewssource.com) — An Anchorage woman is facing felony evidence-tampering and corpse-misconduct charges after police say she helped move a fentanyl overdose victim's body from a Glacier Street apartment to the Basher Trailhead. Prosecutors allege she and her boyfriend later fled, and she's now due back in Nesbett Courthouse on Oct. 1 as the case moves forward.
   

2. Anchorage sees surge in bears killed, with unsecured trash a factor (seattletimes.com) — Anchorage residents are being urged to secure their trash as wildlife officials report 20 bears killed this year, mostly after being drawn to garbage and other attractants in city neighborhoods. New and existing Secure Trash Regulation Zones, limited supplies of bear-resistant containers, and potential fines mean how you handle waste at home can directly affect both public safety and local wildlife.
   

3. Anchorage Police Seek Nissan Rogue After Downtown Hit-And-Run Near 5th Avenue and C Street Leaves Pedestrian With Life-Threatening Injuries (centralrecorder.com) — Anchorage police are urgently asking for tips after a pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries in a Sept. 18 hit-and-run near 5th Avenue and C Street downtown. Investigators believe a 2017–2020 Nissan Rogue was involved and are seeking witnesses, dashcam video, or any information that could help the Major Collision Investigation Unit identify the driver.
   

4. Midgrade gas at $4.75 per gallon in Anchorage Municipality in week ending Sept. 19 (scalaskanews.com) — Drivers in Anchorage Municipality are paying an average of $5.33 per gallon for midgrade gas, with the lowest reported price at $4.75 during the week ending Sept. 19. Local prices remain slightly above the statewide average and are being pushed higher by global oil disruptions and refinery outages, so filling up around town may require more careful price shopping.
   

5. New report shows far more Alaskans are struggling financially than federal data suggests (adn.com) — A new United Way of Anchorage "ALICE in Alaska" report finds 32% of households in the Municipality of Anchorage can't afford basic living costs, even when working full time. Shared at an Anchorage Chamber luncheon, the data shows local families squeezed by rising housing, childcare, and healthcare costs, and suggests many residents earn too much for aid but too little to get by comfortably.
