Here are the top 3 stories in Anchorage today:
- Many Tongans in Anchorage are finally starting to hear back from their relatives in the Pacific. Recently, an undersea volcano, Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai, brought havoc to the islands of Tonga. Thankfully there have only been a few reported injuries and deaths. However, for a few days, communication with the islands remained cut off. This caused many people to worry in Alaska and across the world. (Anchorage Daily News)
- Four teenagers have been arrested after recently discovering their connections with a shooting. This shooting sadly left a young girl with life-threatening wounds. Three of the teens were each charged with first-degree assault, misconduct involving weapons, reckless endangerment, and eight counts of third-degree assault. (Anchorage Daily News)
- The Anchorage Community Theatre is beginning its 68th season and is excited to kick off 2022 with 'Stargirl.' It is a play by Y York that was based on a novel created by Jerry Spinelli. The story of 'Stargirl' centers a curious and bright young woman that begins to attend a public high school after having been homeschooled for nine years. Get your tickets now! (Anchorage Press)

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.
Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
