The purpose of the proposed regulation is to provide a standard approach for students
needing to leave the university when a student’s physical, psychological, and/or other
extenuating circumstances substantially impair the student’s ability to function safely
or successfully as a member of the university community. Once adopted, this regulation
is intended to replace retroactive/late withdrawal policies currently used at UAF,
UAS and UAA.

Since fall 2017, individuals from UAF, UAA and UAS have assisted the UA General Counsel’s
Office in developing this regulation. Opportunities to review drafts were provided
last in 2019, through the UA System Councils, and through the UA System Governance
Office.
