• Tundra Merlin: Military conducts exercise in Nome (nomenugget.net) — Military planners recently visited Little Diomede, along with several other Arctic communities, to request permission for future special operations training in the area. At the same time, a large U.S.-Canadian exercise called Tundra Merlin is bringing heavy aircraft, helicopters, and a HIMARS rocket system to Nome and the Bering Strait region, underscoring growing military interest in the waters and villages near Diomede.
