📰 News we're reading

• Alaskans Flocked to Hear the Rebbe's Wisdom for Life (anash.org) — A Palmer-based rabbi helped lead a large, regional “Building a Better World” gathering that drew Mat-Su leaders, state officials, and families to explore the Rebbe’s ideas on education and morality. The program highlighted the daily moment-of-silence practice in Mat-Su schools and sparked fresh conversations among parents about using that time to encourage reflection and responsibility in students’ lives.

• Pop and Christian artist Amy Grant to perform at 2026 Alaska State Fair (adn.com) — Amy Grant is headed to Palmer this summer, with a newly announced concert at the Alaska State Fair’s Borealis Theatre on Monday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. Fair members can buy presale tickets now, and general public sales start Friday at 10 a.m., adding another big-name show to this year’s Palmer fair lineup.

• State Agencies To Collaborate On Invasive Species In Alexander Creek Drainage (aksportingjournal.com) — State biologists based in Palmer are ramping up efforts to remove invasive northern pike and the aquatic plant elodea from Alexander Creek’s Alexander and Sucker lakes through at least 2027. Residents who boat or fly into these lakes are urged to minimize activity from mid-May to mid-September in 2026 and 2027 so treatments with rotenone and herbicides can work effectively and prevent new infestations elsewhere.
