• First Alaska mule deer harvest follows years of fleeting appearances in the state (alaskapublic.org) — A Skagway hunter has recorded Alaska’s first documented mule deer harvest, highlighting how these newcomers could bring dangerous ticks and diseases that threaten moose. State biologists are asking hunters, including those around Skagway, to submit samples from any mule deer they take so experts can track parasites and protect local wildlife as climate change shifts animal ranges northward.
