(governing.com) — Sleetmute’s school, long plagued by a leaking roof, structural damage, and even bats, is a key example in a statewide push to fix Alaska’s crumbling school buildings. Lawmakers just approved a big boost in construction and maintenance funding, but it will still cover only a small share of the $1.12 billion districts say they need, leaving Sleetmute and similar communities waiting for full repairs.
