• Wrangell legislators vote to uphold governor veto of elections reform bill (wrangellsentinel.com) — Wrangell’s two Republican legislators, Rep. Jeremy Bynum and Sen. Bert Stedman, switched positions and helped sustain Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s veto of a major elections reform bill. Their votes mean Alaskans, including Wrangell voters, won’t see new absentee ballot conveniences, tribal ID protections in statute, or other voting changes in time for this year’s elections.

• ATV fatalities in Alaska four times higher than national rate (wrangellsentinel.com) — Wrangell residents should know that local rules ban ATV use on city streets between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and forbid them on school grounds, parks, trails and other public areas. A new state bulletin shows Alaska’s ATV fatality rate is four times the national average, with many injuries involving children, and officials urging helmets, sober driving and adherence to safety laws.
