• Alaska halibut fisherman convicted in ghost fishing scheme (savingseafood.org) — Yakutat residents should know that a local commercial fisherman has been sentenced to probation, fined, and banned from fishing and hunting worldwide after admitting to illegal halibut harvesting. Federal prosecutors say he and another Yakutat fisherman misused quota permits over several years, allegedly transferring and landing fish in violation of strict halibut rules that protect the resource many locals rely on.
