1. Rollins visits Douglas, Arizona (cattlebusinessweekly.com) ā Douglasā port of entry is set to reopen to livestock trade on August 24, backed by what USDA calls some of its toughest inspection protocols ever. During a July 29 visit, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins also pledged $25 million for a sterile fly dispersal facility planned for Douglas, aimed at keeping New World screwworm out and protecting the local ranching economy.

U.S. Cattle Inventory Up For First Time Since 2018, USDA July Report Shows (pnwag.net) ā Douglas ranchers and trucking companies should note that the Douglas port of entry is set to resume Mexican cattle imports after a 30-day pause tied to New World screwworm concerns. Strict treatment and inspection rules will govern every animal, but the phased reopening is expected to gradually ease tight feeder supplies that have hit Arizona and other border statesā beef sectors. Cattle Feeders Optimistic as Cattle Trade Begins to Normalize (sfntoday.com) ā Cattle imports from Mexico are scheduled to restart at the Douglas port of entry on August 24 under strict health checks aimed at blocking New World screwworm. A Texas cattle industry leader says the phased reopening should gradually restore normal cross-border cattle and beef trade while federal and state teams continue monitoring and refining their disease response.
