Golf ball to groin triggers $5M claim against Mesa (eastvalleytribune.com) — A man has filed a $5 million claim against the City of Mesa after a ricocheting golf ball allegedly ruptured his testicle at Dobson Ranch Golf Course on Valentine’s Day. His attorney argues the city and course operator created unsafe conditions with a poorly placed net pole, and Mesa now has 60 days to respond before a possible lawsuit.

Mesa schools record modest proficiency gains in math, English (eastvalleytribune.com) — Mesa Public Schools students posted modest but steady gains in English and math last year, with overall proficiency reaching a four‑year high in reading and slight improvements in math. District leaders say most campuses showed average or better growth, and they’re now targeting support based on grade‑level benchmarks and “keep up” data to push Mesa’s scores back above the state average.
   

3. Mesa Police: Father Took 10-Year-Old Son Along to Burglarize Mesa Arts Center (iskynews.com) — Mesa Police say a 31-year-old man is in custody after an alleged burglary at the Mesa Arts Center with his 10-year-old son, where jewelry and other items were reportedly stolen on August 19. Detectives later searched a Mesa residence, recovered the property, and listed multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, while emphasizing the suspect is presumed innocent pending court proceedings.
   

4. Chappelle, Burr to headline new comedy festival at Sloan Park this fall (azfamily.com) — Big-name comedy is coming to Sloan Park in Mesa this October, with Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, and Tom Segura headlining the new Fastball Comedy Festival. The two‑day, phone‑free event runs Oct. 17–18, and ticket presales open this week for Cubs and spring training season ticket holders before general sales on Friday.
   

5.
