Arizona Border Wall Closure Restricts Public Lands Until 2029, With Fines Up to $5,000 (mundonow.com) — Access to public lands around Nogales will be sharply restricted starting Monday as the U.S. Forest Service closes areas near the border wall through January 2029, with fines up to $5,000 for violators. Officials cite safety during ongoing infrastructure and security work, meaning local residents and visitors will lose long-term access to popular nearby natural areas and recreation spots.

An outsider brings news of a different world (tncontentexchange.com) — A story first reported by the Nogales International follows Cameron Darris, a boy who briefly lived in the Global Community Communications Alliance compound and shared stories of ordinary life outside its gates. His influence, and the defiance of several boys, triggered harsh discipline and eventually court intervention, raising difficult questions for Nogales-area families about control, children's rights, and insular religious communities.
   

3. Children's Museum Tucson Celebrates 40 Years (biztucson.com) — Families from Nogales are among the thousands of Southern Arizona visitors the Children's Museum Tucson is aiming to better serve as it marks 40 years and undertakes a major expansion downtown. The museum has bought a neighboring building, is adding new program space and amenities, and continues to offer discounted and free admission options that make day trips from border communities more affordable.
   

4. Groups sue over Hermosa mine approval, citing water, jaguars (azluminaria.org) — Local governments, including Nogales and Santa Cruz County, are negotiating a community benefits agreement even as environmental groups sue federal agencies over the Hermosa mine in the nearby Patagonia Mountains. The lawsuit argues rushed approval under a fast-track program threatens endangered species, key wildlife corridors, and regional groundwater, raising long-term questions about tourism, water security, and how much the mine will really benefit surrounding communities.
