PHOENIX, AZ — Authorities are investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian Monday morning in west Phoenix.
The incident occurred near 55th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard in the Maryvale area. Emergency crews responded before dawn after receiving reports of a person who had been struck by a vehicle.
At the scene, first responders found an adult male with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to police.
The victim's name has not been released pending notification of family members.
Police have not yet disclosed what circumstances led to the crash, and it was not immediately clear whether any citations or criminal charges would result.
Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes as investigators processed the scene.
Traffic restrictions in the area were expected to remain in place for several hours Monday.
