PHOENIX, AZ — Independence Day weekend is here, and Phoenix has a packed lineup of free events plus some important changes to city services.
Here's what you need to know before you head out.
Free Fireworks Events
Phoenix is hosting two free fireworks shows this week. Light Up the Sky kicks things off Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at American Family Fields of Phoenix, with live entertainment, games and food vendors leading up to a fireworks show at 9:10 p.m.
The city's marquee event, Fabulous Phoenix 4th, takes place July 4 at Steele Indian School Park. Hosted by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, it's a family-friendly celebration with fireworks and activities for all ages. Both events are free to attend.

Phoenix has implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions due to elevated fire danger heading into the holiday. That means all consumer fireworks are banned within one mile of mountain preserves, desert parks, regional parks, conservation areas, national forests and wilderness areas.
The restrictions follow a push by the city's Fireworks Safety Task Force, created after a spike in fireworks complaints and emergency calls during the 2024 holiday season.
What's Closed and What's Open
Phoenix is observing Independence Day on Friday, July 3. Here's how that affects city services:
