Nearly 3,900 New Coronavirus Cases In Arizona Amid Uptick

At least 3,858 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Arizona over the past 24 hours, taking the state's total to 73,908.

PHOENIX, AZ — For the fifth time this week, Arizona saw more than 3,000 new coronavirus cases in a single day.

As of Sunday, Arizona reported 3,858 new cases of the virus, bringing the number of total infections in the state to 73,908, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Additionally, nine new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported in Arizona over the past day. To date, 1,588 Arizonians have died.

Also, more than 17,600 tests for the coronavirus were conducted in the past 24 hours. Arizona has now conducted 674,424 tests for the virus in total.

Arizona, among a handful of other states, has emerged as an epicenter of new coronavirus cases. The surge has caused state leaders to pause reopening their economies and, in some instances, ordering businesses to close just weeks after reopening.

The Arizona Department of Health Services included a video of Gov. Doug Ducey in its Sunday case count update on Twitter, with Ducey reminding Arizona residents to take preventative actions.

Health experts have said a disturbingly large number of cases are being seen among young people who are going out again, often without wearing masks or observing other social distancing rules, according to The Associated Press.
