Phoenix Mayor Race: 2 Top AZ Democrats Endorse Gallego

Two high-ranking Democrats in Arizona's legislature announced their endorsement of Councilmember Kate Gallego for Phoenix mayor.

PHOENIX, AZ — Two top Arizona Democrats are endorsing Phoenix Councilmember Kate Gallego as their candidate of choice in the Phoenix mayoral race. A press release from Gallego's campaign said House Minority Leader Rep. Rebecca Rios and House Minority Whip Rep. Charlene Fernandez like Gallego's "track record of delivering meaningful change."

Rep. Rios thinks Gallego has been a "great partner" to state lawmakers as a member of the City Council. "From passing an equal pay ordinance to fighting blight is our neighborhoods, Kate is fighting for Phoenicians and I’m proud to stand with her in this race for Mayor," Rios said.

Rep. Fernandez has a history working with Gallego. "From our time in the Governor’s office together, to our time currently serving our constituents and our state, I have seen her accomplish so many great things and always with working families in mind," Fernandez said.

Rios and Fernandez are the Arizona's two highest-ranking Latinas.

Gallego said she's "honored to have such amazing leaders" supporting her campaign. The press release from her campaign says she excels in attracting economic developments.

Last month, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild endorsed Gallego alongside local unions and several other former lawmakers.
