Phoenix Names Inger Erickson As Deputy City Manager

Phoenix City Manager Ed Zuercher has promoted Inger Erickson to Deputy City Manager to oversee the city's Human Services, Housing, Neighborhood Services and Parks and Recreation departments.

“For nearly three decades at the city, Inger has been a champion for programs and services that elevate our youth, support our families, and promote health and wellness in our community," said Zuercher. “Her unique skills, passion for service and experience will serve the city and the community well in her new role in the City Manager's Office.
"Erickson began her career at the city in 1988, as a lifeguard at Coronado Park pool, and quickly began advancing to positions of greater responsibility. She served as deputy director and assistant director of Parks and Recreation before being named director in 2015. As director, Erickson oversaw more than 2,000 employees, an annual operating budget of $117 million and a five-year capital improvement budget of $168 million.

She led public-private partnerships with Major League Baseball's Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants, Phoenix Suns Charities, Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University, among others, that have resulted in more than $100 million in upgrades to Parks and Recreation facilities in recent years.
During her tenure, the Parks and Recreation Department has twice received the Alliance for Innovation's Outstanding Achievement in Local Government Innovation Award, three Crescordia Awards from Arizona Forward, and numerous Arizona Parks and Recreation Association awards. Erickson holds a bachelor of science in physical education from Grand Canyon University and a master of arts in organizational management from University of Phoenix.
