Special Election To Replace Trent Franks: What You Need To Know

Trent Franks resigned last year and there are a dozen candidates on the ballot in the Republican primary to replace him.

PHOENIX, AZ –It's election day if you live in the Congressional District that used to be represented by Trent Franks who resigned last year. Twelve Republicans and two Democrats are running in the primary to replace him.

Polls will remain open until 7 p.m.. The winners of the primaries will then face off in a general election on April 24.

The winner of the seat will then pretty much immediately then have to start running again for the November election.

While former state Senators Steve Montenegro and Debbie Lesko are considered the front-runners on the Republican side, both were caught up in scandals last week.

Montenegro, who is married, was accused of sexting with a senate staffer while he charged that Lesko was misusing campaign funds.

Also on the Republican ballot are Chad Allen, Brendan Dilley, Stephen Dolgos, David Lien, Phil Lovas, Richard Mack, Bob Stump, Christopher Sylvester, and Clair Van Steenwyk.

The Democrats race features Brianna Westbrook and Hiral Tiperneni.
