Phoenix Library calls for nichos for Día de los Muertos display (yourvalley.net) — Phoenix residents are invited to create small nicho boxes honoring loved ones for a Día de los Muertos display at Burton Barr Central Library downtown. Free materials are available starting Sept. 1, with drop-off Sept. 20-27 and the community exhibit running Oct. 6 to Nov. 6. Finished nichos can be reclaimed Nov. 9-16.

Arizona State Fair 2026: Where Arizona Tradition, Entertainment, and Family Memories Come Together (cowboylifestylenetwork.com) — Phoenix residents can look forward to the 2026 Arizona State Fair running October 1 through November 1 at the Arizona State Fairgrounds on West McDowell Road. Expect weeks of rides, exhibits, big-name concerts like Russell Dickerson, and plenty of over-the-top fair food. The fair highlights Arizona's history, local talent, youth competitions, and family-friendly entertainment across the Valley.
   

3. Attorney for Phoenix couple details alleged abuse by former officers (fox10phoenix.com) — A Phoenix couple is still fearful after an alleged off-the-books traffic stop in south Phoenix involving two now-former Phoenix police officers, according to their attorney. The ex-officers have pleaded not guilty to felony charges including aggravated assault, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence. The couple is in counseling and trying to resume normal routines while the case moves forward.
   

4. Witness may be key to helping Phoenix police find deadly hit and run suspect (azfamily.com) — Phoenix police are asking residents for tips after a 57-year-old man, DeWayne Lewis, was fatally struck Tuesday night near 5th Avenue and Indian School Road in midtown. Investigators are searching for a white SUV with a missing front bumper, driven by a white woman seen speeding through a red light. Anyone with information or video from the area is urged to contact authorities.
   

5. Stolen goldendoodle returned to owner after being sold for $700 outside Phoenix mall (azfamily.com) — A West Valley man was reunited with his goldendoodle after the dog escaped a Phoenix yard, was found, then allegedly resold by an unauthorized vendor outside Desert Sky Mall for $700. A stranger who bought the dog saw online posts and contacted the owner, leading to a quick reunion. The owner plans a reward and a police report as questions about the vendors remain.
