Plane lands off Queen Creek runway in second such East Valley incident (azcentral.com) — A small plane landed off the runway at Queen Creek’s Pegasus Airpark on May 5, temporarily closing the runway but causing no injuries, according to town officials. Queen Creek Fire and Medical responded, and federal investigators are reviewing what went wrong with the locally registered aircraft.

2. DAR chapter salutes Higley High cadet (queencreektribune.com) — A local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter named for Queen Creek’s historic Desert Wells Stage Stop has honored Higley High School AFJROTC Cadet Capt. Connor Hyde with its annual Bronze JROTC Medal. The East Valley-based Desert Wells Chapter, which draws members from Queen Creek and nearby communities, praised his academic excellence, drill team leadership, and plans to pursue an Air Force officer commission.

3. East Valley Institute of Technology releases some funds to districts suing it (ahwatukee.com) — Queen Creek Unified School District is one of nine East Valley districts in mediation with the East Valley Institute of Technology over how millions in career and technical education funds are shared. EVIT has now agreed to release some money and resume mediated talks, after previously withholding all satellite-program funding and proposing a much smaller share for district-run CTE programs.

4. Ironwood Ridge upsets top-seeded Crismon behind HRs by Figueroa & Graves (allsportstucson.com) — Queen Creek’s Crismon High baseball team, the top seed in the 4A playoffs, was upset at home by Ironwood Ridge after late-inning home runs swung the game. The roundup also tracks other 4A playoff matchups, including upcoming games in Tempe, Tucson, and around the state that could shape Crismon’s path in the elimination bracket.
