1. Human remains found in submerged car in Scottsdale lake (azfamily.com) — Scottsdale police are investigating after a sheriff's helicopter spotted a submerged vehicle in a lake near McCormick Parkway and Hayden Road on Aug. 30, where divers found human remains inside. The Medical Examiner is working to identify the person, and authorities say more details will be released once they know who was involved and how the car ended up in the water.
2. Chaparral football defeats Apollo (yourvalley.net) — Scottsdale's Chaparral Firebirds thrilled homecoming fans with a dominant 56-6 win over Apollo, showcasing big plays from starters and valuable snaps for backups. Players and coaches praised the Junior Firebirds' involvement, community support, and a special pregame honoring childhood cancer survivors, as Chaparral moves to 3-2 and prepares to face Deer Valley next week.
3. Larsen fall auction to feature Latin American masters, acclaimed women artists (arizonadigitalfreepress.com) — Scottsdale art lovers can browse and bid on more than 400 contemporary, Southwestern, Native American, and Latin American works at Larsen Gallery's fall auction on Saturday, Oct. 17. With preview days, a Oct. 14 preview party, and pieces ranging from a few hundred dollars to six figures, the long-running Scottsdale auction aims to draw both serious collectors and curious locals.
4. Stardust Building Supplies receives Sustainable Scottsdale Award (yourvalley.net) — Scottsdale's Environmental Advisory Commission has honored Stardust Building Supplies with the 2026 Sustainable Scottsdale Award for its deconstruction program, which salvages reusable materials from renovation and teardown projects. By carefully dismantling buildings and reselling items like cabinets, fixtures, and appliances at discount reuse centers, the nonprofit reports diverting more than 100 million pounds of construction material from landfills.
5. America at a Crossroads: Preserving Faith, Family and Freedom - Cave Creek / Carefree Independent (yourvalley.net) — A free half-day forum on America's founding principles and the role of faith, family, and freedom is coming to Dream City Church's Scottsdale campus on Oct. 10. Retired senior military officers, national security figures, and scholars will speak, including Michael Flynn, with both in-person attendance and nationwide livestream options available by advance registration.
